South Street School "The First Day of School" "Meeting Miss Gray"

An amazing cartoon, perfect for both ESL students and teachers. If you like teaching English with cartoons I'm sure this will be useful. Don't worry, you don't have to prepare anything just print the worksheet and enjoy the lesson:)

Hope you'll find it amusing and useful!!!

Suggested lesson plan for ESL teachers?
  1. Tell your students they're going to watch a cartoon to arouse their curiosity.
  2.  Distribute the worksheets and help your students translate the words from vocabulary list. If you have more time play the cartoon and pause it whenever a word or a phrase from the list appears and then students have to translate it (with your help if necessary).
  3. Play the video once again.
  4. After watching both episodes students must do "Lets do it" exercise to practise new vocabulary (as homework if there's too little time left).
  5. ***You may give students some extra homework. For example, they should write in 100 words what happened in the story.
  6. ***You may start a discussion asking questions connected with the story; e.g. What was your first day at school like? Mark keeps forgetting his teacher's name. What do you keep forgetting? Coby says that big spiders are creepy. What is creepy for you? You may ask quite a lot of questions like that!!!
